Josh partners with inclusive community organizations in Michigan to create musical moments at schools, libraries, museums, music festivals and residential programs. Josh has been a teaching artist for Arts in Motion for over 10 years. Through the Drum and Dance class (co-taught with Molly!),the students help create a routine of musical movement that is fun and helps build the important brain/body connection. During the summers, you can find him out at Indian Trails Summer Camp making sure the campers are having another best day ever! Just down the hallway, at Joyful Sounds Music Studio, Josh teaches a Music Together program called Rhythm Kids that is great for 4 to 7yo students. Beginning in 2019, Josh developed a partnership with Kent District Library to present Drums for All. This program features interactive drumming and rhythm presentations that are great for the whole family. The staff for DFA is composed of adults with disabilities who make the show fun for all! Through Artists Creating Together, Josh directs The Action Drummers, an inclusive group of cognitively disabled musicians. The goal of this group is to perform at community events to promote the work of ACT and disabled people in the community. Josh has also been a music guide at Stepping Stones Montessori School in Grand Rapids for the past 8 years. He uses a curriculum with emphasis placed on understanding the fundamentals of rhythm, melody, composition, and having fun with world music in an ensemble.
