Djobi Ensemble 'Wake Up Spirit'

Waking up spirit with music — one soul at a time

If you’ve ever felt your heart beat just a little stronger at the sound of a drum, you already know us. Djobi Ensemble ‘Wake Up Spirit’ doesn’t just perform — we invite you in. Into the rhythm. Into the circle. Into a shared moment where feet start moving, shoulders loosen, and something ancient wakes up inside you.

We play original compositions and traditional rhythms from West Africa, led by Emmanuel Djo Bi, master drummer and native of Ivory Coast, alongside Mama Djo (Kimberly Djo), a lifelong choreographer, teacher, and heartbeat of our family circle. Since 2018, our sons Prince G, Professor Wilf, and Jacob have joined the rhythm, weaving generations into one sound.

We perform with djembes, dun duns, balafon, and other traditional instruments. Our sets include choreographed dances and authentic mask performances like Zaouli and Boloye, honoring the sacred cultural lineages we carry.

We don’t just play drums. We tell stories. We wake up the room.

🌟 Where We've Been

Our beats have echoed through festivals and gatherings across the Midwest and beyond, including:

  • Starwood Festival

  • Community Unity

  • Michigan Renaissance Festival

  • Educational Programs

  • Touch of Magic

  • and many more...

Whether we’re on stage or in the grass with a circle of drums, our mission stays the same:
Wake up the spirit. Call the people in. Share the rhythm.

💫 Our Mission

We believe music isn't just sound — it’s medicine.
It’s memory. It’s movement. It’s the place where soul and story meet.

We’re here to awaken the spirit through rhythm and community.
To remind us that we belong to something bigger — to each other.
We teach, perform, and create space for celebration, healing, and cultural connection.

One rhythm, one people, one heartbeat. That’s Djobi Ensemble ‘Wake Up Spirit’.
